2024 Appreciated Glass Artist 2022-2023 is Sofi Aršas!

The jury (Kati Kerstna, Tiiu Kirsipuu, Lembe Ruben, Kai Lobjakas, Kerly Ritval) made its choice from 5 nominees: Sofi Aršas, Aleksandra Ehrensvärd, Maarja Mäemets, Maret Sarapu and Eili Soon.

The award was handed over on November 12 at the Okapi Gallery, together with the opening of the nominees’ exhibition “Explorers.”

2014 Ivo Lill is the Appreciated Glass Artist 2012/2013!

ivo1Fpr the sixth time now, the Estonian Glass artists Union announces the winner of the biennial Appreciated Glass Artist Award: this time, the lucky laureate is Ivo Lill. The award recognizes an artist’s creative achievements in the previous 2 years.

Ivo Lill is renowned for his cold-worked glass sculptures which, while techinically difficult and physically heavy, still retain an amazing impression of lightness and airiness.

Ivo’s activities in recent years include a private show ”Klaaskuul – Cool Glass” at the Tallinn Art Hall Gallery, and “Kontrasty” (“Contrasts”) at the Russian Museum of Applied and Ethnographic Art in Moscow. In 2013, Ivo Lill became honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

2008 Rait Prääts is the Appreciated Glass Artist of 2006/07

451The honourable nomination for the title of “Appreciated Glass Artist 2006/07” was awarded to Rait Prääts.

Rait Prääts calls himself a craftsman of the twenty-first century, and that he is, in the highest meaning of the word. As an artist he has captured epic ideas by working with traditional methods. This reflects the modern paradox as it stands—to materialize idea into glass there is still no other process, but age-old technique. Continue reading
