2008 Kristiina Uslar got an award in GAS annual conference
The 38th Glass Art Society annual conference was this year held in Portland, USA, addressing the issue of “FORMING FRONTIERS”. The three Emerging Artist Lecture Awards 2008 were given to Jessica Jane Julius, Joseph Cavalieri (both USA) and Estonian glass artist Kristiina Uslar. All three made a presentation about their works in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall of Winningstad Theatre. In her presentation Uslar concentrated on her sculptures in the pâte de verre technique, which are mainly inspired by Roman diatretas.

It was the 23rd time for the annual sculpture exhibition “Sculpture in Context” to take place in Dublin, Ireland. From September 5 to October 20, 2007 123 authors from Ireland, USA, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Hungary, France, Canada, Norway and Estonia showed their works at the Dublin National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin. 2007 contemporary international glass in Southern England
To celebrate its 10th anniversary the Contemporary Glass Society whose aim has been “to encourage excellence in glass as a creative medium and to develop a greater awareness of contemporary glass world-wide” organized an impressive survey exhibition of contemporary international glass in the Riverside Mill gallery (Devon Guild of Craftsmen) at Bovey Tracey, Southern England from September 21 to November 4, 2007. 2007 contemporary glass museum opened in Turkey
In Eskisehir, one of the biggest university towns in Turkey, a contemporary glass museum was recently opened. The idea and initiative belong to the head of the department of glass of the Anadolu University, ceramist and glass artist Ekrem Kula. Housing the museum is a wonderful example of ottoman architecture, tastefully and delicately restored house with an inner covered yard complete with a fountain. The historical surroundings are at the same time complemented and contrasted by examples of contemporary glass, mostly by glass artists of Turkey. Continue reading
