Rait Prääts calls himself a craftsman of the twenty-first century, and that he is, in the highest meaning of the word. As an artist he has captured epic ideas by working with traditional methods. The 38th Glass Art Society annual conference was this year held in Portland, USA, addressing the issue of “FORMING FRONTIERS”. The three Emerging Artist Lecture Awards 2008 were given to Jessica Jane Julius, Joseph Cavalieri (both USA) and Estonian glass artist Kristiina Uslar. All three made a presentation about their works in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall of Winningstad Theatre. In her presentation Uslar concentrated on her sculptures in the pâte de verre technique, which are mainly inspired by Roman diatretas.
