The l<\/strong>ight and glass artist Meeli Koiva was one of the keynote speakers at Light in the City 3-rd Conference in Eskilstuna, Sweden. There was also organized<\/strong>the<\/strong>\u00a0light festival Natlljus. Meeli Koiva was the only artist as\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0<\/strong>keynote speaker at this conference.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The conference was about light and design\u00a0in a\u00a0larger perspective.<\/p>\n

Light in the City is the project what was supported by European Union foundations.<\/p>\n

The topic of the conference was to fiund high level permanent art-light sculptures for the cities, to promote and show the perspectives of light art and citylighting.<\/p>\n

The organizers’\u00a0idea was to\u00a0link\u00a0artists, city officials and the representatives of light firms.<\/p>\n

The Light in the City conference in Eskilstuna was the third conference of the 2 years series.<\/p>\n

Two previous conferences of The Light in the City took place in Hasselt, autumn 2013 and spring 2014 in Tartu.<\/p>\n

Artists\u00a0have been chosen\u00a0by the European competition\u00a0for all these conferences.<\/p>\n

And the jury was formed by the leading curators of European art museums and city officials.<\/p>\n

Meeli Koiva was one of the winners\u00a0for\u00a0two times, for the Hasselt (Belgium) Conference 2013 and to the Tartu (Estonia) Conference 2014.<\/p>\n

The third time there was also organized a competition for professional artists and via competition 8 artists from Europe\u00a0were selected,\u00a0by a\u00a0short portfolio viewing presentation.<\/p>\n

Meeli Koiva’s talk was about\u00a0the\u00a0importance of artists’\u00a0vision in nowadays very similar and monotonous technically\u00a0cold environments.<\/p>\n

By the words of an artist\u00a0the\u00a0unique handwriting of an artist helps to bring to the city environment human sensitive touch, where our glimpse could stay,\u00a0and to\u00a0turn\u00a0the environment more unique and personal.<\/p>\n

At her paper She introduced her new glass -light projects for Silicon Valley,\u00a0that clue together glass, light, social problems and the environment.<\/p>\n

Meeli Koiva has\u00a0been one of the innovators, trailblazers and forerunners in the glass and light field\u00a0for\u00a0over 30 years.<\/p>\n

Her glass and light art for the architecture has\u00a0been reproduced at the US and at the European magazines.<\/p>\n

She has\u00a0been invited to make presentations at\u00a0 universities,\u00a0she has\u00a0been an invited speaker at seminars and at conferences in Europe and USA.<\/p>\n
