This biennial symposium takes place on the Island<br \/>\nof Bornholm, Denmark in September and October 2008. For the first time this event<br \/>\npresents contemporary European glass. <!--more-->Through exhibitions, a conference, workshops,\u00a0master classes and a technical display an opportunity will arise to discuss and experience\u00a0the situation of European glass today. All of the 27 members of the European Union are\u00a0participating, as well as Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.<br \/>\n3 exhibitions will each present artists and designers from 30 European countries in the<br \/>\ncategories: Established artists, Emerging artists and Industrial design. A national commissioner<br \/>\nfrom their relevant country will carefully select all exhibiting artists. In each of the\u00a03 categories a prize of 10.000 \u20ac will be given to one outstanding artist.The openings of\u00a0all 3 exhibitions will be held on the 13th of September 2008.<br \/>\nA workshop with invited students from all European countries will discuss current themes<br \/>\nrelated to the cultural and traditional identity of the European glass scene.<br \/>\nA conference will present papers on issues concerning tradition, technology and cultural<br \/>\nidentity in contemporary European glass.<br \/>\nA master class will investigate new ways of glass making by looking at traditional process,<br \/>\nnew technology and sustainable energy forms in a hands-on approach.<br \/>\nA technical display will present equipment, tools, materials and supplies at a sales fair.<br \/>\nEuropean Glass Context 2008 is organized in collaboration between The Art Museum<br \/>\non Bornholm, Business Center Bornholm, The Glass and Ceramic School on Bornholm,<br \/>\nGr\u00f8nbechs G\u00e5rd and M\u00f8belfabrikken.<br \/>\nThe Danish Ministry of Culture, The Regional Municipality of Bornholm, as well as a<br \/>\nnumber of funds and private sponsors are financing the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>European Glass Context 2008 forms part of a biennial symposium for European Contemporary glass and ceramics.
